Sue Harper

Sue was one of the founder members of Ouse Valley Archery Club, along with her husband ‘Copper’.  They founded the club in 1995 through their love of sport from working with the Girl Guides and the Outward Bound Centres. The club became very popular and its membership grew to become one of the largest clubs in the county.

Sue was a very competent teacher and soon qualified as a Coach then a Senior County Coach. She organised and ran many Archery Leaders courses not only for archery club members but also for other youth organisations, scouts and guides, to help promote interest in the sport of archery.

She also organised and ran Coach Level 1courses and was a mentor to many archers encouraging them to get involved in coaching, helping them to pass their coaching exams and to carry this on after her retirement.

Sue was County Coaching Organiser for over a decade during which time she was instrumental in shaping the coaching practices in the county. She also ran both of the County Coaching Senior Squad and Junior Squad for many years.

Sue’s inspiration and dedication to the County was rewarded with her being elected as President of the County in 2010 for a term of 3 years.  Sue took this roll on with her usual enthusiasm and supported as many County events as possible during her term of office. She could often be seen carrying refreshments to the judges at tournaments and ‘mucking in’ wherever help was needed.

In November 2007 Sue was awarded the title of Life Time Member of the County for all of her hard work.
